Apparently he got left behind when his mother and the herd where chased out of an area near a human settlement in the Lower Imenti Forest in Kenya. The area he was found in was quite remote and due to the dense forest it was deemed impossible to reunite him with his herd, so he had to be transported to a nearby airfield and airlifted to the Nairobi Nursery, where his rescuers could take care of him. Kithaka got a new family of elephants which quickly adopted himAnimals: elephant
